Dear Dr. Jackson,
I am 46 years old and I am beginning to miss my periods and getting a few hot flashes. Mostly I am becoming depressed, irritable with mood swings. I really don't feel good. My internist says my thyroid is fine. ...IS THIS MENOPAUSE and WHAT CAN I DO?
JS/Beverly Hills
Dear JS,
Menopause is preceded by a peri-menopause period where a woman misses her periods and experiences other evidence of HORMONE IMBALANCE. We will measure your ESTROGEN and TESTOSTERONE levels to determine the level of imbalance. Your symptoms suggest a SIGNIFICANT TESTOSTERONE DEFICIENCY. We balance your hormones using BIOIDENTICAL HORMONES in the form of small PELLETS placed painlessly under your skin.
Dear Dr. Jackson,
I am 43 years old and recently was diagnosed with large fibroid tumors in my uterus. What does this mean and what do I need to do?
KT/Los Angeles
Dear Kt,
First take a deep breath and relax. Fibroid tumors are very common occurring in as many as three out of four women. They are smooth muscle tumors of the uterus that almost NEVER progress to cancer. Depending on your age, desire for more children and most important, your symptoms, we can individualize the personal plan for you. Our office starts with nutrition and hormone balancing. We offer the following procedures: saline infusion sonohystograms, endometrial biopsy, and ultrasound to aid in further delineation of your fibroids. If the symptoms dictate, together we will determine the correct ultimate surgical solution for you.
Dear Dr. Jackson,
I am 40 years old and I have never had children... How do I know my ovaries still work?
HR/ Brentwood
Dear HR,
After the mid thirties, the pregnancy rate begins to decrease. To determine if your ovaries are still responsive to stimulation by the pituitary to ovulate we need to obtain a blood sample on the third day of your menstrual cycle. We can also look at your ovaries to get an idea of the number of eggs evailable for stimulation.
